
Marsha L. Carson, CLIA, CGIA, ARCSA-AP, LEED-AP was elected to the Board of Directors of the Dallas Irrigation Association on January 18, 2011 in the annual membership meeting which included voting for the new board members for the first time in the association’s history. The organization represents irrigation professionals in the North Texas/Dallas metropolitan area, and is represented by the Texas Turf Irrigation Association at the state level. Her term will last for two years.

JC Nowotny, CLIA recently passed the Florida FNGLA (Florida Nursery, Growers and Landscape Association) Certified Horticulture Professional (FCHP) program. The FNGLA Certified Horticulture Professional (FCHP) program is the industry's only standard for measuring horticulture knowledge on everything from plant and pest identification to landscape management. Candidates must pass a comprehensive four-part online written exam to demonstrate knowledge about plant identification, disease and insect control, plant biology and landscape management. FCHP promotes professionalism among horticulture professionals, including nursery, greenhouse, landscape and retail garden center employees. The FCHP program has been in existence since 1984 with more than 1,100 certified professionals statewide.

Carson, CLIA, CGIA, ARCSA-AP, LEED-AP hosted Workshop Session titled: “Water Session – Efficient Outdoor Water Use” at the GovEnergy Conference at the Dallas Convention Center in Dallas, TX August 15th-18th. Workshop sessions are led by subject experts, offering detailed information to support daily operations as well as long-term energy management goals affecting federal agencies. The conference focused primarily on helping federal agencies meet the new Executive Order 13423, which mandated reduced energy and water consumption, by 2% annually through 2015, and was attended by Federal Government Employees from all departments and divisions from all over the country.

pilot project in Highland County which involves
bringing a mobile irrigation lab to 35 homeowners residing in the city of
Sebring. The lab will evaluate residential irrigation systems and develop
customized recommendations on irrigation equipment, management practices, Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ and irrigation schedules. In

The City was the first in the country to host the traveling exhibit, which highlighted Climate, Recycling, Food & Composting, Renewable Energy, and Water Resources.

a Florida Water Star℠ Certifier. The Florida Water Star℠
program is owned and managed by the St. John’s River Water Management District.
It is a voluntary certification program for new and existing residential and

appliances, plumbing fixtures, irrigation systems and

American Rainwater Catchment Systems Association’s (ARCSA) annual National
conference “Rainwater – The Forgotten Resource” September 14-16, 2009 in
Decatur, Georgia. The conference (http://www.arcsa.org/2009
conference.html) was planned for Decatur, near Atlanta, due to its location at
the heart of our nation’s growing concern over dwindling water supplies. ARCSA
is dedicated to educating the public on how to harvest and use rainwater and,
in turn, reduce the demand for treated water.

JC Nowotny received the
CLIA - Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor certification from the Irrigation
Association in August, 2009. To receive this
certification from the Irrigation Association, a candidate must have 1 year of
verifiable experience in the irrigation field, be accepted as a candidate by
the Irrigation Association. The candidate must score a passing grade on the
examination and perform field tests on landscape irrigation systems to
determine efficiency, as well as how to combine plant water use, soils and
local weather data to calculate accurate watering schedules for irrigation
systems. Most importantly, a Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor deals
directly with the issue of wise water use on the landscape.
